The KOKOKSHI are the most sacred of all the rain makers. This may be due in part to their identification with the children lost in the mythological river crossing, who floated down to the Sacred Lake and became Kachina. As Kachinas they are always happy and gentle and sing the sweetest of songs. The rains that they bring in the summer are also gentle and quake the world green, for they are very compelling when they attract the breath of the dead to fall as rails or snow.
